The smell of the stables was one of the things Robin missed most about her home back in Arizona. The low nickering as the horses and pegasi lounged in their stalls, the smell of fresh hay and feed mixed with the musk of manure-- this was her home away from home and today was the a perfect day to ride. It felt like ages since she had left her beloved Ravensong back home and she was yearning to get back in the saddle. The sad truth was she got along a lot better with animals and plants than she did with people. They were just so easy to talk to and they loved unconditionally--Robin never feared being judged while she was around them.
“Hey there, gorgeous.” The daughter of Demeter said softly to one of the pegasi as he stuck his ebony muzzle out to greet her. She hadn’t been here long, but she liked to think that the horses and pegasi had already taken a liking to her. A gentle hand reached out the stroke him, her fingers then moving to straighten out his forelock which had gotten disheveled. “You guys look hungry.” She observed as more muzzles peeked out from their stalls, dark eyes looking at her expectantly. Robin chuckled as the black Pegasus nudged her impatiently, causing her move a foot forward to keep her balance. “Patience is a virtue, my friend.” She spoke before walking to the feed room where buckets of food awaited to be served at feeding time. Now, she would much rather be out riding than feeding, however chores came first before she could have her fun. Robin stroked her chin as she observed them, thinking about how she wanted to tackle the task at hand. Finally deciding on starting on the left end, she grabbed the assigned buckets and began walking, her boots making light thuds with each step.
“Now don’t run me over me, please.” She asked when she came to the first stall, placing all but one bucket on the ground. Robin had learned most of their names, however there were quite a few so she was still working on a few of them. Once she had opened the door she quickly stepped in and closed it behind her. The paint sniffed at the food, however allowed her to dump it into her bin before digging in. As Robin exited she ran her hand from the horses shoulder to her flank as she walked by.
One down. A lot more to go.
